The European project Strategic Foresight Partnership (SFP) aims at strengthening regional foresight competence, changing interregional foresight information and sharing best practices. The Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council is a SFP partner.
Besides strengthening European interregional cooperation, foresight will be developed locally. During the project, the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council will get together regional foresight actors and strengthen the cooperation. A team for regional foresight will be put together in this project.
The project goal is to support the preparations for the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Programme during the years 2030–2033. Tools and approaches to a more future orientated and prepared regional development are the aimed products of this project. This project helps to enhance all regional actors in their long-range strategic work.
Project with seven European regions
The project SFP (Strategic Foresight Partnership to Strengthen Regional Capacity for Territorial Policy Enhancement) is a 4-year project, funded by Interreg Europe. It goes on until spring 2029. and its total budget is 1.55 million euros. The share of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region is about 250,000 euros.
The region of Hauts-de-France is leading the project. Apart from this French region and the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region, the participating regions are: Friuli Venezia di Giulia in Italy, Katalonia in Spain, Podkarpackie in Poland, South Moravia in the Czechia and Ivano-Frankivsk in Ukraine.
Participating regions having a lot in common
Each region has its own number of inhabitants, regional assignments, administrative structure, regional attractiveness and financial vitality capacity. Practices and experiences regarding the use of strategic foresight vary, as well. The diversity of project partners will offer interesting views of regional development.
Despite the differences, many similarities are yet to be found in the regions. In their foresight, and as examples, all regions need to take into consideration the developing of economic factors and the mitigation of climate change. To make sure all population groups take part in activities, efforts are needed in all regions.
The goal during the project is to diminish the need for reactive solutions and to improve regional resilience.
