Uusimaa Day celebrated all over our Region today, Yle Areena streaming Spring Celebration this evening

On 21 May we’ll celebrate the first Uusimaa Day ever. Tens of events will be held all around our Region. Yle Areena is streaming our Spring Celebration at 7 p.m. from Lohja.

− On this day, we invite everybody to take part in various events. On Tuesday 21 May, every cultural happening, outdoors recreation or encounter can be done in the spirit of our Uusimaa Day. Just do it in your own way, Katriina Rosavaara, Adviser for Cultural Affairs at the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council encourages.

Lohja hosting our celebration this year

Our spring celebration starts with the energetic all-girl rock band Safetybox. The music of Amorphis is proudly presented by its vocalist Tomi Joutsen, together with the City Orchestra of Lohja. The performance is enlivened by sign language interpreter Miguel Peltomaa. We are offering you inspirational regional music and culture for an hour.

Yle Areena is streaming this celebration – to be seen everywhere in our Region from 7 p.m. onwards. The recording will be available for a month. About 500 of us registering our participation can attend the event in the Laurentius Hall in Lohja. Tens of events around our Region

We encourage you to make a spring excursion into local nature, get together for a cup of coffee, grab a photo challenge and visit a library.

We have challenged regional day care centres, schools, associations and libraries to arrange events on this Day.

Many school classes and day care centre groups in Karkkila and elsewhere are making an spring excursion with the Nature Bingo.
The duo Saatsi & Shemeikka is giving a folk music concert at the Lotta Museum in Tuusula, showing the variety of roots in our Region of today.
Local café entrepreneurs in Lohja serve coffee and buns at the Central Square for the first 701 visitors. Lohja, as the host, is celebrating its 701st birthday this year.
Regional productions of authors, local nature and history on display in the main library of Loviisa, also offering wood anemone decorations for children to colour.
