Helsinki-Uusimaa and State of Brandenburg expand cooperation
Our Regional Mayor, Ms Tuija Telén and Ms Katrin Lange, Minister of Finance and for Europe of the State of Brandenburg, have signed an agreement on cooperation in Potsdam.
Brandenburg, with about 2.5 million inhabitants, is the state surrounding the German capital Berlin. However, the city itself does not belong to it. Potsdam is the capital of the state. The region Helsinki-Uusimaa, on the other hand, has 1.8 million inhabitants.
The signed Joint Declaration addresses issues of Baltic Sea cooperation, strengthening the cooperation in the areas of European policy and in regional, spatial and urban development. Additionally in developing innovation, university and research cooperation, start-up funding and joint applications for and the implementation of EU-funded projects.
Minister Lange pointed out that both parts share a strong commitment in advancing the policy areas of the agreement. She finds this especially important against the background of the current geopolitical situation.
Regional Mayor Telén highlighted the importance of Germany as a cooperation partner and the mutual efforts to increase the competitiveness of the Baltic Sea Region.
–This Joint Declaration is an important step in the nearly 15 years of collaboration that we have had between our strongly developing capital regions, Ms Telén said.
During her visit, Ms Telén met with the Finance Ministry and Economic Development Council of Brandenburg, as well as with the representatives of the Scandria Alliance Network. She also visited the Science Park and the Media Tech Hub in Potsdam.
