In the bi-yearly edition of the Regional Innovation Scoreboard published in July 2023, the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region holds the overall position of the second most innovative region in Europe. Innovation performance of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region has increased over time by 18%.
Entrepreneurs find the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region the most vital in Finland. The second most vital region is that of Pirkanmaa, surrounding Tampere, and Ostrobothnia is the 3rd in ranking. The opinions of regional entrepreneurs were asked in a barometer. Three categories were measured: networking, leadership and decision-making.
According to many international comparisons, the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region is at the top of Europe and the entire world. Well-being, highly educated residents and an ability to innovate are included in our regional strengths. But there are issues needing to be improved, for instance sustainable development and employment.
According to a recent calculation by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), municipal climate emissions in Helsinki-Uusimaa decreased by 7 % in 2019 compared to the previous year. The emissions in all Finnish municipalities decreased by a total of 5,5 %.
The Helsinki-Uusimaa region ranks second among European regions in the latest comparison of societal development. The EU Social Progress Index (EU-SPI) assesses the prerequisites for well-being and good life in 240 regions.
