Stories from the Circular Hub – Helsinki-Uusimaa on the road to circular economy

More and more sectors are now furthering a transition to circular economy. The Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Hub was an import cooperation platform for circular economy solutions in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region, founded in 2023. Highlights from the first project years of the Circular Hub have now been put together in the publication Stories from the Circular Hub, raising both the updates of the sectors and the actors of the regional Hub.
– We have made a publication with stories from the Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Hub to create a shared understanding of how the circular economy proceed, and what challenges and possibilities it faces. Despite all shared good practices in international cooperation, the Circular Hub has taught its actors that inspiration and the best examples can mostly be found within the boundaries of your own region, Mr Simo Karetie, Project Manager at the Circular Hub, says.
Circular Hub offering cooperation platform and solutions
Regional ecosystems and cooperation have been built during the first stage of the Circular Hub, along with creating project portfolios. The bottlenecks of a circular economy in various sectors like construction, food, electronics, plastics and textiles have been studied.
Ms Pia Tynys, Sustainability Manager at the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council is pleased that the discussions in the workshops with companies, public and RDI sector – along with organisations – have led to new solutions and even new project ideas.
–We promote circular economy by getting actors together for joint development processes around material flows and value chains. Our Region can already widely show specialists and organisations working to further a transition to green economy.
Something tangible, good support and pilot projects next
n the next years the Circular Hub concentrates specifically on supporting municipalities in circular economy with a new project KOPPI: Regional home bases – supporting and piloting the green deal in circular economy. The regions of Pirkanmaa and Helsinki-Uusimaa cooperate regarding their ecosystems. Regional home bases for the green deal in circular economy. They want to speed up the pilot projects in circular economy and new concrete actions in the built-up environments. The work focuses particularly on forecasting the coordination of masses and the reuse of building parts with the municipalities.
