Finnish circular economy solutions showcased at World Circular Economy Forum

Finland, a pioneer in circular economy, will be a prominent participant in the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) organised in April. Finland will showcase new circular economy innovations and cooperation models at the Forum. The Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Valley is also participating in the Circular Economy Super Week.



Helsinki-Uusimaa RDI roadmap steps to become European forerunner in innovation

Helsinki-Uusimaa has set a goal to become the most innovative region in Europe by 2030. Currently, nearly 50 per cent of the research and development expenses in Finland can be found in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region and research, development, and innovation activities (RDI) make up about 3,9 per cent of the regional gross domestic product. The aim is to increase these investments to five percent of the regional gross domestic product.



Helsinki-Uusimaa is the Finnish leader in Horizon Europe participation

Helsinki-Uusimaa Region has acquired over 400 million euros of EU funding from EU’s top research and innovation (R&I) funding programme Horizon Europe in 2021-23. Helsinki-Uusimaa Region has received more Horizon Europe funding than all other Finnish regions combined.

The Helsinki-Uusimaa Region is known for its activities in international research and innovation. The Region aims to strengthen its top expertise and the EU-level investments given for research, development and innovation, RDI. There is an interest to become a Regional Innovation Valley, as well.



Helsinki Smart Region continuously an Innovation Leader

In the bi-yearly edition of the Regional Innovation Scoreboard published in July 2023, the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region holds the overall position of the second most innovative region in Europe. Innovation performance of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region has increased over time by 18%.

Helsinki-Uusimaa continuously attractive to foreign direct investment

Helsinki-Uusimaa came second in the ranking of the fDi Intelligence's Top 10 mid-sized European regions of the future 2022/23 when comparing the attraction of foreign investments. We have particularly high results in the category of economic potential, as well as in human capital and lifestyle.

Helsinki-Uusimaa awarded as European Entrepreneurial Region 2021–2022

The Helsinki-Uusimaa Region has been selected European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) 2021–2022. Awarded by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), this label of excellence goes to regions who have demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial foresight and an intelligent growth strategy taking into account larger societal challenges.
