The preparation of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Programme commenced in early 2021 and the programme is being built in active cooperation with regional actors. It is expected to be ready by the end of 2021 and will be valid 2022–2025.

Mr Markku Markkula, the chairman of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Board has been appointed the Finnish Ambassador for the Covenant of Mayors. The Covenant of Mayors was launched in 2008 by the European Commission.

Awarded by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), this label of excellence goes to regions who have demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial foresight and an intelligent growth strategy taking into account larger societal challenges.
